2026

  • May 2026 – May shoot at Bisley with MLAGB 300 and 1,000 yard Rifle Championships, and Long Range Rifles Branch 600 yard Volunteer Trophy.
  • April 2026 – Modern BPCR Shooter Issue #2, April 2026 is now available.
  • March 2026 – Work has begun on a new title that will focus on the American Buffalo Hunt and the Sharps used in the harvest. The research team are now cataloging identified Sharps. Can you help with research?
  • January 2026 – Modern BPCR Shooter is a free online magazine to support BPCR along with .22 BPCR sport and match shooting, and to support shooting with genuine black powder. Embracing wider aspects of the sport, the magazine also features long range muzzle loading. Issue #1, January 2026 is now available.

2025

  • November 2025 – Earlier this year members of the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA) enjoyed a lecture on the Evolution of the Lee Enfield.
  • October 2025 – Friday 24 October / Saturday 25 October saw the MLAGB 200 yard Rifle Championships plus the end of season matches for members of Long Range Rifles (LRR) Branch of the MLAGB.
  • August 2025 – The Long Range Rifles Branch of the MLAGB held their ‘Metford Trophy‘ match at Bisley. Muzzle loading match rifle fired at 900 and 1000 yards.
  • June 2025 – A.W.F Taylerson commenced extracting data from Patent Office records in respect of the assignment of British patents covering firearms and related inventions. His work had only covered two volumes, 1853-1866 and 1867-1871, when the original records were destroyed in 1963. Taylerson’s work may now be the best remaining source of information on the assignment of such patents.
  • April 2025 – April shoot at Bisley with MLAGB 300 yard Rifle Championship for Enfield rifle and target rifle, and two days of practice at 600, 900 and 1,000 yards.
  • March 2025 – Peter Smithurst’s two volumes on ‘The Evolution of Gun Making‘ give a unique insight into military gunmaking of the 18th and 19th century. 
  • February 2025 – New contact details for serial number documentation from the original records of the Sharps Rifle Company.
