The Long Range Rifles Branch of the MLAGB have held their ‘Metford Trophy’ match since 1992. This is, where possible, an aggregate competition fired at 1000, 1100 & 1200 yards. This year bookings at Bisley for 1100 & 1200 yards were not available to suit the Branch calendar. Rather than forgo the competition it was changed to the aggregate of 15 shots at each distance, 900 & 1000 yards.

The Long Range Rifles (LRR) Branch of the MLAGB had their final competitions of the year at Bisley on 25/26 October 2024. A good day shooting was finished off nicely with the Annual Dinner and Prize Giving. Friday was a practice day shooting at 300 and 500 yards. Saturday there were two 600 yard matches, the Rigby Cup and the Whitworth Cup – the former is for muzzle loading target rifles, and the latter only open to hexagonally bored Whitworth rifles.

A splendid weekend of long range muzzle loading at Bisley, with the MLAGB and the Long Range Rifles Branch! Shooting at 600, 900 and 1,000 yards. Long range shooting with the muzzle loading rifle is a challenge – there’s a lot that a changeable wind can do to deflect the heavy lead bullet from the centre of the target!

Friday 3 May – Sunday 5 May saw three days of training and competition shooting at Bisley with the Long Range Rifles Branch of the MLAGB. Ranges booked were 500, 600, 900 and 1000 yards. Shooting was mostly with muzzle loading rifle, but there were also a handful of black powder breech loaders used at some distances.

The 2024 Dick Hoff Memorial Target Rifle Mid-Range Match will be held on 11 May 2024, at Miami Rifle and Pistol Club, Cincinnati, OH.

The 2023 Joe Hepsworth Long Range Black Powder Rifle Match will be held at at Camp Atterbury, IN., November 4th & 5th, 2023. Shooting is at 1000, 1100 and 1200 yards. Permitted rifles: Any safe original or reproduction traditional muzzle loading or cartridge style firearm in the mid to late 1800’s era of International Rifle Matches shooting black powder.

Trafalgar Meeting, Bisley, Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd October 2023. This is the premier UK event for historical firearms.
