A good three days shooting at Bisley with the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain (MLAGB) and the Long Range Rifles Branch MLAGB (LRR) over the weekend of 8-10 May. Muzzle loading match rifle and Enfield rifle, plus black powder cartridge rifle at 300, 600 and 1,000 yards A mix of training and competition.

LRR held their Volunteer Trophy match on Friday morning. This 600 yard competition is fired with the .45 cal. muzzle loading military target rifle, fitted with barrel mounted open sights. While the large bore .577 military rifle can also be used, it is generally outclassed by the small-bore rifle. Both originals and reproductions will be seen on the range, of the latter, the Parker-Hale Volunteer and Whitworth rifles are popular choices. The afternoon was given over to 600 yard practice.
Saturday was the MLAGB 300 yard Rifle Championships. There are two events: one for muzzle loading match rifle and the other for the .577 Enfield rifle. Sunday morning was a further session of 600 yard practice, and the afternoon the MLAGB 1,000 yard Rifle Championships.
Shooters enjoyed generally good weather with just a gentle/moderate wind for most of the weekend. Sunday, though, was decidedly colder and had a much stronger wind… just what’s needed to make the challenging 1,000 yard shoot even more so!
Nice to see each event won by a different person; Rob winning the Volunteer match, David winning match rifle at 300 yards, Taco winning Enfield rifle at 300 yards, and John winning match rifle at 1,000 yards. [Results]
