Whilst this blog has been quiet for some time, much activity has been going on in the back ground, including securing for preservation (the late) De Witt Bailey’s collected papers on Whitworth rifles.
Expanding much upon research by both the late De Witt Bailey and Bill Curtis, a Whitworth book in collaboration with Tom Rowe is progressing well. After some delays on my part the project is moving rapidly towards conclusion. Updates will be posted here from time to time.
New information still comes to light, and several previously unrecorded Whitworth rifles have also been added to the Whitworth database, including the pictured sporting rifle, dating from 1860. Now with over 730 rifles documented, just 10% are single or double sporting rifles.
